In 1990 Arthur Slenk found two boxes containing hand written music scores tied together with crumbling elastic bands and bits of sting, on investigation Slenk discovered that the music sheets had been used by an amateur orchestra between 1872 and 1941 and had no historical value
Slenk fell under the spell of the score, with its yellowing stained pages, dog eared corners, scrubbed out and corrected notes; all traces of the long forgotten amateur band and spent the next seven deconstructing the music sheets. Once he had cut out the musical characters, numbers, paper stains he sorted them in empty marmalade jars and then proceeded to create 144 collages, giving the band’s score a new life.
NLXL selected 8 of these collages for its’ new Remix Wallpaper collection. The Designs are simply astonishing, New State-of-the-Art scanning techniques were developed to capture the depth of the paper clippings. The results are simply stunning
