Michael Anastassiades

Michael Anastassiades’ design philosophy is to preserve the inherited qualities of the materials he uses to produce exceptionally designed objects of permanent value. Having originally trained as a civil engineer, the Cypriot born designer later studied for a master’s degree in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art and went on to open his London studio in 1994, where he went on to release his first lighting collections, along with furniture and accessories. Each design is handcrafted, glasswork is mouth-blown, and the metal finishes are bespoke, resulting in long-lasting pieces of enduring craftsmanship. Creating timeless, distinctive designs, Anastassiades’ work is featured in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, London’s Victoria & Albert Museum and much more.

This range includes many design lighting pieces from pendant lights, table lamps and ceiling lamps. Some of our favourites are the Tip Of The Tongue Table Lamp and the Philosophical Egg series. Known for his stunning lighting structures, his work also includes furniture and tabletop objects. With each piece featuring a striking finish with stark lines and simple geometric composition, Anastassiades’ pieces offer a playful take on contemporary design. Many of his lighting fixtures are often paired with spheres, cylinders and tubes, with luxury materials such as polished brass and mirrors, creating a distinctive appearance. Each product made in the studio are artisanally made and come in natural finishes, exposed elements without any protective lacquers.

The Michael Anastassiades Studio has collaborated with various manufacturers, including Flos , B&B Italia and Herman Mille. Why not place one of his iconic ceiling lights in your living room or perhaps a table lamp on your bedside table for a reading light? The minimal and clean-lined designs will complement any interior style and theme. Whilst you are here, why don’t you explore the rest of our designer lighting collection?
