With sustainability at the forefront of the brand’s focus, the Danish design brand Mater, was established in Copenhagen in 2006. Mater cleverly designs its furniture and lighting with recycled materials and sustainable thinking. From recycled coffee bean shells and old Carlsberg beer kegs to the plastic waste of the ocean, all products have an ethical meaning behind them and will last for years to come. Meaning ‘Mother’ in Latin, Mater is a reminder that their designs contribute to the challenges that mother nature faces day to day. One of our favourite collections is the Ocean range, consisting of a range of outdoor furniture crafted from the ocean’s plastic waste. From the designer Terho Pendant Light to the Mater Coffee Waste Bowl Table , each piece within the Mater range has been meticulously made by talented craftsmen. What’s more, the sustainable pieces within this collection, has been designed so that when disassembled, each component can be upcycled into a new production series once again.

Amongst stylized and forward thinking design, Mater’s range of designs have been designed by a range of talented designers, including Ocean’s creator, Nanna Ditzel and the Conscious Chair’s founder, Borge Mogensen and Esben Klint. Some of the designs even date back to 1955; in particular the Ocean collection, that was awarded Wallpaper* Magazines Design award in early 2019.
