The Safari Chair is a refined and produced copy of the chairs that were brought on an African safari by an American cinematographer and were later redesigned by Kaare Klint. He saw them in the couple’s photos and decided to create them himself, most likely based off of British military Roorkhee chairs from the colonial era. The original featured glueless joints, tool-free assembly and an intelligent construction that tightened the joint when someone was sitting in the chair to increase its stability.
He focused on simplifying the chair range to make it a modern design rooted in traditional roots and he succeeded, first displaying it at the 1933 Copenhagen Guild Exhibition to acclaim from other designers. It’s fabric frame provides soft and breathable material that supports and cradles you whilst you sit in this chair.
A designed match, pair this Carl Hansen chair with the Safari Stool to create a relaxed area for your home to put your feet up. On the other hand, why not explore the rest of our designer chair collection?
