Introducing Muuto

Here at beut, we love working with some of the worlds most sought after brands and designers. While we are on the subject of award-winning brands, we are delighted to tell you that Muuto, the fantastic, Scandinavian design company will be making an appearance here at beut in the very near future ; arriving just in time for the gift giving season. Words cannot express how privileged and excited we are.

To give you a sneak peak, we thought we would share some of the exquisite products Muuto has to offer. These images are from the pop-up exhibition that was held at the Nomad workspace in Copenhagen. We think that the staging of this exhibition portrays just how beautiful these products really are.  In true Scandinavian style, minimal design interacts seamlessly with gorgeous colour ways, as shown in these photographs credited to the highly talented photographer, Jonas Jacob Svensson.

Remember to Flos

If you have been following our instagram or surfing our website recently, you may have noticed we have been adding Flos Lighting onto our site. This mission is finally complete. So we felt it was only right to dedicate a full post to the bestselling innovators that are Flos. Not only do we have long standing favourites and bestsellers, we also have brand sparkling new pieces to share with you, and we are super excited about it. So, without further ado, let us introduce to you, Flos.

Backstory

It all began back in the late 1950’s when two Italian furniture designers found themselves in need of a change of path. Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina joined forced and Flos as established in the alpine town of Merano in 1960. This leap of faith came with the wise words “every great success comes from taking risks or from the courage to bet.” The name “Flos” came from the Latin word for ‘flower’, with the connotation that glorious and innovative designs could blossom from a simple light bulb.

As the company grew, as did their vision, with renowned lighting designers from across the globe participating in collaborations and innovative designs with Flos. Soon after their move to Brescia, Flos released one of their most iconic designs which continues to be a bestseller to this very day, the Arco Floor Lamp. Designed in 1962 by Archille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, the Arco encompasses the rounded style of the 1960’s, whilst expressing forward thinking design in the form of it’s simple and understated colour palette.

From £1665

Staying relevant has seemingly come with ease for Flos, continuously producing iconic and innovative designs which push the boundaries of not only the lighting market, but the interiors market as a whole. No doubt there has been plenty of blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes, evident in their consistently high quality results. No aspect spared. Considered right down to the smallest detail. By uniting art and design hand in hand, Flos have sustained imagination for over 50 years.

Continuing their innovations, when Piero Gandini became the new owner of Flos in 2005, he channelled the founders’ mantra and radically introduced LED bulbs into Flos’ design and production process. This incredible innovation lead to the forming of ‘Flos Architectural Lighting’, a sector of the company dedicated to providing lighting solutions to large commercial and public spaces. This spurred on designs for outdoor spaces as well as truly functional pieces of art. The introduction of LEDs gave Flos and their designers a whole new avenue of creation to explore, no longer confined by conventional light bulbs.

To this day, Flos are continuously releasing the new, the weird and the wonderful. Upholding their innovator status. We have compiled a selection of our favourite pieces from Flos to share with you and we hope you’re as seduced by their Italian charm as we are.

Arrangements

Ever felt like you wanted to create your own lit-up centrepiece and the choices on display just weren’t unique enough? Well stress no more, Flos and beut have come to the rescue with the ever-anticipated Arrangements Collection. What is it? I hear you ask. Arrangements is a series of nine LED lights in a range of shapes and sizes. Simply choose your preferred elements, the ceiling rose to suit, connect it all together and voila, you’ve got yourself an Arrangement.

Individual Elements Starting at £465

Important information to remember before you start building:

  • Make sure to measure your ceiling height, this is a very important step.
  • Then decide whether you will hang your suspension light from ceiling to floor, or above a table.
  • Next, choose whether you require a small or large surface mounted ceiling rose depending on final wattage.
  • Finally, select your elements, making sure to make note of the final height and wattage of all elements when hung together.

If building your own Arrangement from scratch is a little daunting, not to worry, these Arrangements are also available as ready curated designs with the correct ceiling rose included and final height clearly stated.

Glo Ball Collection

As the name suggests, the Glo Ball Collection is quite literally a series of glowing balls of light. Minimal and simple in concept, yet innovative in design. This collection is made up of twenty lights which fall into seven easy groups, including floor lamps, pendants and wall lamps. Place these orbs around your home for a minimal, yet effective, lighting experience.

Collection Starting from £85

String Pendants

At first glance the String Pendant Lights appear to be simple and generic, but take a closer look and you’ll discover they are so much more. Choose between two pendant shapes, Sphere and Cone, then decide on your cable length. Cable length? I hear you ask. Why does that matter? A whole lot, it turns out. In fact, where majority of pendant lights on the market focus on the design of the shade itself, the String Pendants keep the creative license and exploration for the cable. With a choice between 12m and 22m of cable, along with a series of surface attachments, you can create a web of beauty and your very own master piece, unique to your space.

From £460

Fuscia

If you’re a fan of pendant clusters and rows, you’ll love these Fuscia Suspension Lights. Available as a single pendant or a series of three, eight or twelve together on one ceiling rose. Ideal for hanging over worktops, dining tables and in any other space you see fit. Stunningly simple, yet effortlessly elegant, the Fuscia Pendants will solve your concerns about having to rewire the house when choosing to hang multiple pendants in one.

Proud British Heritage

Standing strong at over 140 years old, Cole & Son have been rolling out the finest wallpapers for surfaces across the globe for quite some time now, this even includes Buckingham Palace. So, it’s no wonder they are Britain’s most sort-after wallpaper brand.

From humble beginnings in 1875, founder John Perry probably never considered his wallpaper company in North London would still be as widely, if not more, popular around the world over 140 years later. Thanks to high end and well-known clients spanning through the 19th century into the 20th, Cole & Son kept building their reputation. In 1941 they were bought by A P Cole and moved into Central London, along with offices and showrooms to boot.

Old dogs can definitely learn new tricks

As a company, they have truly kept up with innovations and technology in their industry. From the original exclusive use of hand block printing, re-introducing pan coating and Flocking, to being one of the first screen printing studios in Europe. Throughout their long history, Cole & Son have always been on the look-out for the best methods to produce the highest quality wallpapers for their customers.

These days, Cole & Son’s new wallpapers are often selected from the vast archives, coloured by their designers and finally printed by skilled craftsmen. This incredibly detailed process ensures the original character of the print isn’t lost, whilst supplying a product of the highest contemporary quality.

Buzzing with creativity

Any budding or established artist would relish in the opportunity to enter the Cole & Son archives. Consisting of around 1,800 block print designs, 350 screen print designs as well as a whole host of original drawings and wallpapers, it is truly a sight to see. We know we’d like to pop our heads around the door.

Here at beut, we fully respect and applaud Cole & Son for their gentle balance between retaining their historical journey and taking innovative steps forward. This is why we are proud to be a Cole & Son official retailer, working closely with their team to provide you with the best quality British wallpaper.

New Week, New Wallpaper

They’re at it again, Cole & Son have launched their all new and improved Fornasetti Collection. This brilliant collection is inspired by the work of the late Italian painter Piero Fornasetti, so expect playful themes and odd combinations. Complete with new designs as well as much loved existing papers revived with new colourways, this collection is sure to be a hit with home décor fans around the globe.

So, what’s the best way to introduce this collection? We figured our new Weekly Top 5 segment would be the ideal method. We have hand picked five of our favourite papers from this collection to give you a taste of what it is all about.

Simple, Innovative and Practical.

Heerenhuis have mastered industrial chic and raw craftsmanship, especially when it comes to tables. Company top bosses, Geert Legein and Louis Van Haesebrouck, live and breathe table making, even making the company manifesto “We make tables. That’s what we do.”

Well known for their incredible dining tables which surely stand their ground with true strength and confidence. Although very minimal and raw, Heerenhuis’ dining tables and other products are surprisingly versatile, fitting straight into a range of aesthetics and themes. It’s easy to visualise these tables in a good variety of environments, this is partly thanks to the large selection of designs as well as the creative mix of materials.

non--blackHeerenhuis Sputnik Reclaimed Teak Rectangular Table – £1442

Your home should be unique to you, displaying your personality, passions and lifestyle. This is a viewpoint Heerenhuis also take, therefore they love to use high quality, yet non-perfect materials. Meaning, every product is unique to the next, even if the design is the same. What’s more, your furniture will often change over time in your home due to chemical reactions and usage.

Whilst some pieces are crafted from wood, which is designed and coated to arrive as it is intended to stay, others are designed and made using materials which will change and react over time to become a unique piece for your home. A stunning example of this is their brass dining table which is uncoated to allow the brass to age and react to it’s environment and use.

Although it may be hard to believe, Heerenhuis produce products other than tables. The Belgian furniture makers also offer up a selection of lighting and other furniture, such as benches and chairs. They have really thought of everything, come for the dining table, leave with a whole new dining set and pendant to hang above where you eat.

Heerenhuis Metal Chair – From £225

Proud of the unique, stripped back nature of their products, Heerenhuis provide instruction on how to best care for their products based on the raw materials used to craft each masterpiece. It is also important to reiterate the fact every piece is unique due to the materials and production process so whatever you order is likely to differ a little from imagery you have seen previously. Not at all in a bad way though, in fact the contrary. Your piece will be sure to be your own and will grow and develop with you. A perfect example of a piece build around imperfection is their Live Edge Bisbal Walnut Table which features an incredible slice of irregular-edged wood supported by non-coated steel legs.

Introducing Boråstapeter

Scandi interiors are hugely in fashion and continue to be due to their timeless simplicity and unique quirks. From furniture to lighting, the world is going mad for our Nordic friends’ designs, so no wonder their wallpapers are flying off the shelves too. Where did it all start? Boråstapeter of course. As Sweden’s oldest, best-known and best-selling wallpaper brand, Boråstapeter was founded in 1905 by Waldemar Andrén and continues to be the leading wall coverings manufacturer in Nordic countries, with their international popularity continuously growing.

Borastapeter Title Image

For such an iconic and long-lasting brand, Boråstapeter have done an incredible job to keep up with trends and client demands. It would be easy for such a company to ‘stick to what they know’ to ‘preserve tradition’, however this is clearly not the Swedish way. Innovation and staying one step ahead is truly the secret to keeping the business alive and growing. Oh, and collaborating with some of Scandinavia’s most iconic and talented artists and designers.

Blog

Although Boråstapeter produce an incredible array of collections, we have chosen three of our favourites to share and celebrate; Wonderland, Scandinavian Designers I and Scandinavian Designers II. Why these collections? Well, we love the diversity of designs as well as the collaborative joining of numerous designers’ work under one collection. Bringing work from multiple designers together naturally creates diversity in design, however Boråstapeter have managed to retain a clear narrative throughout each of their collections. Truly inspired.

BT_SDII_Bersa_Kitchen

Wonderland

That said, those in the know will be aware Wonderland is purely designed by the sensational Hanna Werning. Although this doesn’t quite fit our gush over the bringing together of multiple designers’ work, we still love the diversity and clear narrative in this collection. So much so we wanted to share some of our favourite papers with you, so if you’re currently in the market for some Scandi redecoration, get ready to be inspired.

For Lovers Of Subtle Quirks: Molntuss Wallpaper

A Pop Art style pattern featuring subtle fluffy clouds constructed from dots, available in a range of pastel colourways. This paper provides an abstract subtlety up close that comes alive when the viewer takes a step back, much like the 1960s work of Lichtenstein and Warhol. Ideal for a room intended for relaxation such as bedrooms and living areas.

Hanna_Werning_Wonderland_Molntuss_Bedroom_2

For Nature Lovers: Hoppmosse Wallpaper

An illustrative contemporary design featuring happy-go-lucky piglets amongst ferns and forestry, all five of the available colourways are bursting with colour, bringing the wall to life. The flora and fauna is kept playfully contemporary with a clever mix of geometry and simple curves that draw the eye across the entire display and occasionally details grab attention.

Hanna_Werning_Wonderland_Hoppmosse_Livingroom_Apricot

For Eccentrics: Flyttfrö Wallpaper

At first look this paper appears to be an abstract design. Take a closer look and the discovery is never-ending. From towering mountains to tiny swimming ducks, this paper truly tests your imagination. Your choice of colourway hugely depends on just how eccentric you want to be. If you’re going for initially subtle and growing complexity, taupe is ideal, however if the aim is a big burst of impact upon walking into the room, black is definitely a sure way to do so. For an even bigger impact, the black design is available as a mural.

Flyttfrö

Scandinavian Designers I & II

Boråstapeter created so many collaborative designs with some of Scandinavia’s top artists and designers that they needed two whole collections to fit them in. Ok, they were released four years apart, but in no way have they dated. Scandi design is truly proving itself to be timeless, especially considering many of the designs in these collection were originally designed as far back as mid-20th century and have been revived for these collections.

Blog3

With a stunning mix of everything from floral to geometric, all the design bases are well and truly covered. As ever, these collections provide something for everyone, whatever their taste. Many of their designs cross over both collections with colourway alterations, therefore we have picked out three of our favourite designs from the two collections.

Blog4

For Geometry Lovers: Trapez Wallpaper

A gorgeously simple design by Arne Jacobsen, the Trapez paper is inspired by reversed trapezes and features rows of two-tone right-angle triangles. Available in nine different colourways across the two collections, Scandi I sports a bold and colourful array, whereas Scandi II opts for a more neutral selection of colourways.

BT_SDII_Trapez_Livingroom

For Autumn Lovers: Amorina Wallpaper

Inspired by her fabric design of the same name from 1962, Viola Gråsten’s Amorina paper is timeless hand drawn pattern featuring an autumnal display of illustrative leaves in varying colours against a black background. Ideal for cosy and warm rooms such as autumn/winter living areas or the dining room.

BT_SDII_Amorina_Fireplace

For Those That Love A Pop Of Colour: Tallyho Wallpaper

Brilliantly inspired by apples this playful paper was designed by Stig Lindberg and initially intended for public buildings. Featuring large stylized apples perfectly lined up in rows and columns. Five bold colourways are available to suit all tastes, this paper is ideal for rooms intended for fun and innovation such as a study or playroom.
